Bio

I graduated from Cornell University-New York Hospital School of Nursing in 1976 and took the leap and moved to California. For three years, I worked as a hospital nurse at UCSF as a Clinical Nurse III. This was a rewarding experience, but I decided I desired more and graduated from UCSF Graduate School of Nursing with my Masters Degree in Nursing and Women's Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate. During this time period, I also married my husband and gave birth to my first daughter during Christmas break in graduate school. (She received a NP certificate too for attending school with me).

My husband and I moved to Sonoma County in 1982 to raise our family. I was fortunate to work part-time in private practice in Napa; Family Planning in Sonoma County; Fireman's Fund as their gynecological nurse practitioner and SCPEO Family Planning. At SCPEO, I was trained as an Infertility Nurse Practitioner and managed a small infertility program while we enlarged our family with another daughter.

In 1988, I was interviewed by Kaiser Santa Rosa. They offered me employment where I would be able to utilize all my skills I had developed over the years and would be able to have an obstetrical practice that I was missing. I have remained here happily ever since, being able to combine my infertility, obstetrical and women's health practices. I am also a trained colposcopist (advance training for abnormal pap smears). My emphasis is on preventative health care and education. I want women to feel comfortable in my presence and be able to work together solving their health care needs.

Personally, I love walking, hiking, reading, theatre, and Hawaii. My husband (who is a physics teacher) and I are very active in our community. My first love is my husband, and our daughters, Rachel and Leah, and our newest member, our son-in-law Tomasz.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

I enjoy working with women and helping them through their individual journeys. I feel like I have a lot to offer with my knowledge, experience and expertise. I particularly enjoy my infertility practice with its reward of assisting couples in their quest to accomplish their dreams.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

I belong to the American Association of Reproductive Medicine. I am also a member of the California Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Current projects or research:

I am currently on the planning committee for the Kaiser Interregional Symposium for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Certified Nurse Midwives and Nurse Anesthetists. I have edited and revised a book entitled "Getting Pregnant and Staying Pregnant," 1999, and two infertility chapters in "Women's Primary Care, Protocols for Practice," 2004.

Great health resources that I refer to:

An interesting story from my training:

I gave birth to my firstborn daughter during the winter break of my second year of graduate school. The department was very accommodating and allowed me to bring her to classes. Often times, we took a break so that her diaper would get changed. One class, as she was being quiet and sitting in a stroller, the physician lecturer stopped midway in his sentence and looked around and said, "I hear a baby in here." Everyone just giggled.

Interests

My best friend Jenny, and my dog Sumo (a Black Labrador), and I walk almost every morning at 6 am for at least 45 minutes. It's the perfect way to start the day.

My favorite book or author:
Isabelle Allende

Family & Friends

People in my life:

I met my husband, Jay, on a coed softball team. We have been married for over 26 years. He is a remarkable father and husband, and the best high school physics teacher one will ever encounter. Just ask his students!

My children and people I care about:

Rachel, my eldest daughter, is beautiful, intelligent and incredibly talented. She is currently pursuing her teaching credential in high school math and French. Her husband, Tomasz, born in Poland, traveled the world and now resides in Sonoma County. He is also very talented, fluent in several languages and capable of building, fixing and solving any problem. My youngest daughter is pursing a BS in geology at UCSB. She is a joy to be with, has a heart of gold and a terrific sense of humor. She currently enjoys tutoring children of all ages.

My pets:

We have a 9-year-old Black Labrador mix. He has quite a personality and has finally calmed down. He was a challenge as a puppy so we named him "Sumo." He is quite fun and friendly.
