Laboratory Medicine

Welcome to the world inside the medical laboratory! In the laboratory, a highly skilled and dedicated medical team of patient service representatives, laboratory assistants, clinical laboratory scientists, managers, and pathologists work together as a team to provide your physicians with valuable data to determine the presence, extent, or absence of disease, as well as the effectiveness of treatment.

At Kaiser Santa Rosa, these medical laboratory professionals are a team dedicated to bringing you the best patient care. We strive, so that you can thrive!

Although we are often behind the scenes, we are dedicated to patient health. We find great satisfaction in our work, knowing that we are helping you and saving lives. There are four Santa Rosa laboratory locations to serve Kaiser members.

Outpatient services are best obtained at your most convenient medical office location.

Staffing includes 4 pathologists (highly specialized MD's), 23 clinical scientists (who do the tests), 40 certified laboratory assistants (who collect the blood samples), 8 registration staff and 4 management staff.

The Santa Rosa laboratory is part of the regional network of Kaiser laboratories throughout northern California. Routine outpatient tests are sent to our regional laboratory in Berkeley. Results are posted on our integrated information system so they are available to your provider as soon as they are completed. Next day results can be expected for most non-urgent tests; certain very specialized tests will take longer.

The hospital laboratory is dedicated to testing for the emergency department, hospital inpatients, surgery and oncology. These testing services are provided on a 24/7 basis.

The Santa Rosa laboratory performs approximately half a million tests per year; Kaiser's regional laboratory performs approximately 21 million tests per year for all the northern California Kaiser facilities.
