Medical/Surgical Nursing

If you have questions about nurses in medical/surgery, you can call our department manager:
Denise Laws, RN
(707) 393-4619

Medical/surgical nurses care for a wide variety of medical and surgical patients. Many patients are admitted directly from the emergency department or the perioperative area . Caring and compassion with clinical competence define these nurses.

To be a medical/surgical nurse requires learning about the full range of human illness including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory ailments, renal failure, immunologic problems and infectious diseases.

Some medical/surgical nurses have obtained a 'Progressive Care Certification' with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
